Life in Jamestown was not what the settlers expected!
The Jamestown settlers faced many hardships after arriving in the new land. The settlers chose the location because they believed there was plenty of fresh water. However, the land where they settled was marshy and lacked clean water to drink. Additionally, starting a new colony was not easy for the settlers. They lacked leadership and important skills they would need to provide for themselves. Because of this, many of the settlers ended of dying of starvation and disease.
However,
Help was sent to the settlers in many forms that led to survival!
- Two ships full of supplies were sent to Jamestown
- Captain John Smith gave the strong leadership Jamestown needed.
- Agriculture became a food source and survival skill the settlers began to focus on.
